The Travel Outfit Edit: What to Pack for the South of France

Effortless dressing for long lunches and longer afternoons.

Packing for the South of France is really an exercise in restraint — linen everything, a good straw bag, sandals that can do both the market and dinner. This edit pulls together the pieces I’d build a France capsule around: relaxed, polished, and just a little sun-kissed.

Start with an easy linen set you can mix and match throughout the trip — something like this one from Reformation. I always pack at least one oversized white button-down like this one, because it works as a beach cover-up, airport layer, or dinner piece over slip skirts.

And of course, swimwear is essential in the South of France. I love timeless silhouettes in neutral tones or soft European-inspired prints — pieces that feel elevated enough to pair with linen pants and gold jewelry straight from the beach club to lunch. Some of my favorite vacation swimwear comes from Monday Swimwear and Triangl. Add lightweight sarong, chic sunglasses, and a raffia tote and you instantly have that effortless Riviera look.

For daytime exploring, I love a woven market tote like the raffia styles from Sézane paired with leather sandals from Ancient Greek Sandals. Add chic sunglasses, gold hoops, and a silk scarf tied around your ponytail and you instantly look polished with almost no effort.

A few staples I always recommend packing:

For evenings, lean into soft neutrals and simple silhouettes. A black slip dress, kitten heels, and a swipe of bronzer somehow always feels right on the Côte d’Azur. I love packing versatile dresses because they transition beautifully from dinner to drinks by the water.

And don’t overlook airport outfits — matching lounge sets from Varley or elevated travel basics from Aritzia make the long-haul flight feel significantly more chic.
